Public Disclosure Act: sir, good news for you!

The Public Disclosure Act (PDA), will be implemented in all the municipal bodies (of course, including Pune Municipal Corporation and Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation)of Maharashtra within a month.

Yes, within 1 month! Because, implementation of PDA is mandatory for seeking funds under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).

Once PDA is implemented, the municipal bodies will have to disclose annual performance statements, duties and functions.

Which means - to get information from PCMC / PMC pertaining to (Road!) contracts and building permissions (sanctioning of plans, completion certificate, and all!) you do not have to take the trouble of filing an Right To Information (RTI) Act application or some other method!

Sir, you know what i mean. Good news! Isn't it?

  1. PDA requires municipal corporations to reveal audited financial statements showing the balance sheet, receipts and expenditure every quarter; also, spending on providing major services and details of major works

  2. So has any municipal corporation published such quarterly results/ annual statements? Or is it just a paper tiger?
